Why are We as We are Now?
What is us?
That may seem abstract, but how far off is it from our current state? From that, the question can change to “What is the legacy that is defining us?” yet that still does not cover it. No, “What is us?” is a matter of the heart. Whether we want to admit it or not, humans are good; our lives are good; our purpose, relationships, goals, dreams, and aspirations are good. Why, then, do we let ourselves become destroyed in life?
I fear the answer, while complex, is simple to state: we let our dreams be destroyed.
Well, that is a depressing idea. Yet, it is how many of us live: an endless tirade of ideologies suppressing the creativity and vitality of humanity. But why. We let our voices, thoughts, and opinions act as divisive measures to sew discord rather than plant seeds of unity. We let our self-idealizations ruin the good that is before us. We let ourselves be bound by our circumstances and choose to remain so by this stupid notion that “it is just the way it is.” Like hell it is.
We are bound only by our choices, not our circumstances, ignoring greater truths for self-validating ‘rabbit holes’ and echo chambers in often ethnocentric idealism, leading yet to more division and animosity amongst those of every tribe, tongue, and nation. I mean not to be pessimistic, for that solves no issues. Instead, I mean that this is a new way–
Stop.
Stop. Think. Pause. Consider.
Just maybe, we are more than that of which we are told. Perhaps we are more significant than what we often appear to be. What if we were to recognize that many of the characteristic differences that lead us to despise those who think differently than us are not as great as they may seem? Wouldn’t that be a shift in perspective?
It is not my place to present a solution; no, admittedly, I consider myself far too ignorant to even suggest a theory of a direction to think, but I want to pose a question; a challenge that may be new, but if I think I am right, then you may have thought of this yourself.
Consider now the video at the end of this video, more than lyrics, more than the message, more than the people who comprise the music, consider more than what is at face value.
Ka monwa olelo (ber)
Ka atino oleo (ber)
Ka awobi owero (ber)
Ka adwong olelo (ber)
When these words ring true for all, then perhaps there is the answer to the question that we are missing, but who knows, you tell me.
